Tasty treats tip into town
A new Fine Foods Market was launched in Banbury Thursday 20th August 2015 offering visitors the chance to tickle their tastebuds with a tempting treat.
Cherwell District Council, in partnership with market operators Sketts, has introduced the monthly market to entice more shoppers to the town.
About a dozen traders signed up to the first event, offering delicious delicacies ranging from pies and pasties to cakes and curds.
Cllr George Reynolds, Cherwell’s deputy leader, said: “Every year the annual Banbury Food Fair attracts thousands of visitors to the town so we know there is demand for people to shop for quality and tasty treats. We want to act on that and offer something every month so people don’t have to wait a year to indulge in fabulous foods and delicious delicacies.
“The new Fine Foods Market will take place on the third Thursday of each month, giving people the chance to satisfy their appetite for something a little bit special. For those unable to attend our first event today we would encourage them to make a note of the next market in September so they don’t deprive their tastebuds of the wonderful foods on offer.”
Between 9am and 4pm traders set up shop outside the entrance to Castle Quay, opposite Banbury Town Hall. A range of homebaked and freshly prepared food was on offer, including pizzas, pastries and brownies while those looking ahead to dinner time could choose between quality meats, fish and pies.
There was also a wide range of herbs, jams and preserves sure to suit everyone’s tastes as well as an array of cheeses. A selection of ciders was also on offer for the adults.
The next Fine Foods Market will be held on Thursday, 17 September opposite Banbury Town Hall from 9am – 4pm.
