Sketts celebrates Pride of Warwick District Awards shortlisting

June 10, 2014

Sketts Quality Events has been shortlisted in the Touch FM Pride of Warwick District Awards in Small Business of the Year category.

The prestigious awards take place on Saturday, July 4, and Sketts partner, Paul Skett, was delighted to hear today’s news.

He said: “As a family we have been in Warwick District for more than 55 years, and to receive this shortlisting in the year where Warwick celebrates 1,100 years is all the more special.

“We have lived and breathed markets in Warwick since 1958, and we’re now in our third generation of the Skett family managing the Warwick market.

“I firmly believe we are a part of the community, but as with many essential elements in our community, when they are run very well, they are invisible.

“Our markets in town centres are there every weekend, often defying the conditions, ensuring our traders, and the public who look forward to seeing them, are almost never denied seeing them – even in the bleakest of snowy winters.

“Many of our traders have been with us for not just a few years, but for generations, a testament to the loyalty we show to our traders and that they show to us.

“Having said that, there is a changing face to the world of markets, and we are moving with the times, embracing the growing trend for fine food markets. This has introduced many new traders to our markets, much to the delight of local people.

“And with changing times also comes new ways of talking to people, and we have embraced social media as a way to engage with our customers and traders. We now have more than 1,500 followers on Twitter and more than 500 people have liked our Facebook page!”

This has meant the family business has developed experience and expertise that is second to none in providing what a town and district needs from a market.

And the work in the town doesn’t just involve the weekly Saturday market.

The business works with the community and town to make events happen.

These include:

A market every Saturday in the centre of Warwick.

Charity support, such as supporting the Mayor’s Appeal with the stall for the Christmas light switch on, or stall hire for the Thai Festival in Warwick.

The Warwick Smith Street Party stall hire.

Sponsoring Warwick Rocks and the Food and Film Festival with traffic management and stalls provided.

Supporting Connect10 with the Cultural Olympiad in Warwick.

Traffic management.

Our staff work quickly and efficiently in planning, setting up and managing events with professionalism, ensuring a smooth and unobtrusive presence, minimising any inconvenience and ensuring traffic and people flow are not obstructed.

Clear away is handled with the same precision, leaving your venue cleaned and tidy.

We are experts in our field, completely flexible and can cater for any special requirements.

Speed is truly is our forte. Our experienced personnel can completely erect a 70 stall market in less than 90 minutes and provide a complete market, ready for work within 48 hours notice. Sketts offer a well rehearsed procedure - no messing, no fuss.

Paul Skett added: “Recommendations to government by retail expert Mary Portas emphasized the importance of markets to our town centres and high streets, particularly in places like Warwick. We recognise this and work to make our markets gel with the community needs and those of the traders in the towns.

“We are fully involved in this year’s planned National Market Days, aiming to make everyone more aware of local markets – local communities, visitors and tourists, old hands and budding entrepreneurs alike.

“During Love Your Local Market in May we are offering entrepreneurs and charities the chance of free market stalls in Kenilworth and Warwick.”

In recent years tens of thousands of pounds have been invested in new covers for Warwick and Kenilworth markets to give them a fresh and uniform look.
