| Sketts Farmers' Markets - Trading Criteria |
- All produce must be locally grown or locally produced - local means within 50 miles of the market location.
- Stalls must be staffed by the producer, their family or an employee who is directly involved with the growing or producing of the product on sale. They should have a good knowledge of the produce they are selling.
- Producers must sell their own produce at a stall, all of which must have been stated on the accreditation form. Bought in or repackaged produce is strictly prohibited.
- Primary Produce including meat, meat products, poultry, fresh fruit and vegetables, honey, plants, eggs and fish. These should be grown/reared by the stallholder.
- Game; this should be shot or caught within the local area and be sold by the person licensed to hunt the game or a dealer who can produce receipts from a local licensed hunter.
- Secondary Produce / Value added products including bread, cakes, confectionary, jams and preserves, ready meals, juice etc must be made using locally grown ingredients where available and at least two of the ingredients should be sourced locally. Mixes or pie fillings are not acceptable.
- Plants; grown from seed or cuttings where some degree of skill is involved in the process is strongly encouraged. Plugs may be purchased and potted on but may not be sold until they are established. Mature plants may not be purchased with the intention of selling on immediately.
- Organic; only farms and processors registered with an approved sector body may use the term “organic” to describe their produce. Organic certificates must be displayed on your stall at all times. Ignoring this guideline is a contravention of Trading Standards Legislation and will result in being excluded from the market/s.
- Every stallholder must display their Accreditation certificate as supplied EVERY time they attend.
Guest producers
These are producers that do not fit all the criteria but would be an enhancement to the market. I.e. Cornish pasties from Cornwall. They are restricted to attend only four times per year and not on consecutive market days. The stallholder maybe a genuine producer from outside the area that is not available locally or a local charitable organisation promoting their fundraising activities. |

Local food for local people
Farmer's Markets emerged in this country around 1998 and were seen as a saviour to many struggling farmers who were experiencing difficult times. The concept of providing local produce to local people has been embraced and these markets are now common place in most towns and cities across the UK.
Sketts is extremely proud to be one of the Farmer's Market pioneers with Stratford Upon Avon being one of the first in the country, opening in June 1999 with many others following. We continue to work closely with farmers and local authorities to ensure our farmer's markets remain authentic and true to their original ethos. The original criteria required is still adhered to. Our farmers have risen to the challenge and continue to provide excellent produce. They offer customers their expert knowledge of the produce, how it's grown, how it is best cooked and even recipes are on hand
